Changing your buses transmission and reduction oil

Read your Bentley service manual first, but if you don't have one...
here's a cheat sheet.

Change the oil in your reduction boxes first
250ml/side
then change the tranny oil
2.5 L

Use the same oil
winter 75 or 80 SAE hypnoid gear oil
Summer SAE 90 hypnoid gear oil...

those are specs, but modern oil I'm using SAE 80W90 hypnoid approved oil.

Ok this is demoed with a '67 Kombi, but 59-67 should be pretty much the same.

1- put your bus in gear and set the e-brake
2- chalk the front wheels
3- crack loose the wheel bolts
4- jack up your bus.
5- remove...

You'll need a 17mm allen wrench or equivalent.
3L of SAE 90 transmission/gear oil
a measuring cup
and a funnel/hose
and oil drain pan.

Use your 17mm to make sure you can loosen the top filler of the reduction box....

Drain the oil into a drain pan.
When it's finished draining replace bottom plug.

Hint: If you went for a drive first the oil should flow out quite nicely.

Ok so your reduction boxes are good, now time to drain the tranny.

Locate the two drain plugs and the filler hole.

This is the first drain plug just in front of the engine. (bottom looking up)

And the filler plug, on the drivers side of the transmission.

Again you want to make sure the filler plug can be removed BEFORE draining the transmission oil.

So STEP 1 Remove filler plug.
